School District Vote on January 28th
Tension is mounting over the vote on Putnam Valley Central School District's bond proposal that is scheduled for Tuesday, January 28th. Although the district's administrators have made clear that their proposal for capital improvements will result in no increase in taxes for residents, and state funding will heavily subsidize the proposed expenditures, the plan has nonetheless generated intense criticism from those who believe the district's spending plans are excessive and unwarranted. For a refresher on the issues involved with this proposal, click here.
The district's capital improvement plan was developed over the course of a year by a committee of more than 30 parents, teachers, staff and community members. Public meetings to gather feedback on the plan, however, were sparsely attended. Surprisingly, only about a quarter of parents with kids in the schools typically turn out to vote.
There is still a small window to engage in early or absentee voting, for details click here. Otherwise, district residents wishing to vote on this proposal need to stop by the Putnam Valley Elementary School (171 Oscawana Lake Rd.) on the 28th between the hours of 6 a.m. and 9 p.m.
